There are the essential substances to sustain our eyesight. There are even cases of blindness caused by this malnutrition. Genetically modified rice with vitamin A and beta-carotene has come up as the perfect solution to this problem.Myth 10: GM plants cause harm to the environmentTruth:This myth is of the similar type as the myth of the harm for humans. It tells that we do not know what might happen with the environment if we introduce GM plants into it. The most common fear is that GM plants would cross with the “wild” plant and leave into other locations, and God knows what the consequences could be. Some people actually suggest that plants would grow legs and would leave somewhere on their own. There are indeed concerns about how a GM plant would influence the environment. But what a surprise – the scientists who create GM themselves are the source of these concerns. That is due to the fact that many factors have to be considered. So far, there is no confirmed or documented cases of the negative influence of GM products on the environment. On the contrary, a number of cases was described that confirm the positive influence of GM plans on the environment.To sum up, we are faced with the following fact: all contemporary plants, produced on industrial scales, are the result of at least the classical selection methods. GM plants are much safer that those plants, which appeared after mutagenesis or crossbreeding.Due to the development and implementation of GM technology for the plants, the problem of people having allergic reactions can be solved on a short-term basis. On a long-term basis, it might help to solve the problem of famine on the planet (though with a planned economy it is quite possible today). In addition, we might reduce the amount of fuel and energy which human civilization consume. That would also bring positive influence on planet ecology and quality of life.What is important though is that we must not stick to one set of scientific evidence, but to continue research and investigations.
